Kammiovuori
Nutturintie 104, Sysmä
Kammiovuori located in Vintturi in Sysmä is the highest point of East Häme, from the top of which opens a magnificent landscape far into the region’s forests and lake scenery. Along the route running through hilly and atmospheric forest terrain, a seven-meter-high glacial erratic “Sysmän Linta” and Hiskia’s cave attract interest, which according to tradition was the dwelling place of a hermit who lived on Kammiovuori in the early 1900s. Despite the challenging terrain, Kammiovuori is also popular as a family excursion destination.

Route description:
The route begins from the parking area, from where one climbs surrounded by a conifer-dominated mixed forest towards Kammiovuori. A clear path leads upward towards the lean-to shelter place, where it is good to make a fire before continuing the ascent. In summer 2017 a new lean-to shelter, wood storage, toilet, cooking table and stairs were built on Kammiovuori, as well as a table and benches on the viewing platform.
After the lean-to shelter the path branches into a circular route, along which can be found Hiskia’s cave, the glacial erratic Linta and the summit of Kammiovuori itself. From the top of Kammiovuori impressive landscapes open, but at the edge of the cliff special caution must be observed. The path runs through very varied forests from grove to pine forests and atmospheric spruce forests.
Good to know
At the lean-to shelter on the route a WC was built in summer 2017 and firewood is in the wood storage near the shelter. The route can be walked in sneakers, but hiking boots are a more supportive option for varied terrain. The boardwalks over the marsh area will be renewed in spring 2018. Near the top of Kammiovuori is located one of the triangulation points of the Struve chain. Along the route several really very large anthills can be seen. In the village of Vintturi located 3 km away there is a pier for those arriving by boat. In the village there is also accommodation at the former elementary school of Vintturi http://www.vintturi.com. The nearest shops are located in Sysmä.
Difficulty
The route is classified as demanding. In parts rocky, root-filled and steep path brings its own challenges to the trip. Despite its difficulty Kammiovuori is also popular among families with children. However, when going to the edge of the cliff special caution must be observed. Stairs were built in the steepest parts of the route in summer 2017.
